Profile
The Department of Culture and History of the Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg district office is a cross-divisional municipal cultural institution. It presents an independent, continuous cultural program in its facilities Alte Feuerwache and Galerie im Turm in the district of Friedrichshain as well as in the FHXB Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg Museum, Kunstraum Kreuzberg/Bethanien and Jugendkunstschule FRI-X in the district of Kreuzberg.
The mediation of contacts, information and advice for artists, visitors, the press and institutions are services that are in demand; the Department of Culture and History makes transparent funding decisions for projects by artists, initiatives and associations that are realized and/or take place in Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg through a tendering process with a jury decision.
The Department of Culture and History is also responsible for coordinating the Kommission für Kunst im öffentlichen Raum (commission for art in public spaces) and the Gedenktafelkommission (memorial plaque commission). The committees advise the district on issues relating to art-in-architecture projects, the installation of artworks and commemorative projects in public spaces as well as the renaming of streets.
