Migration, resistance and social struggles - Jewish history and the working class in Friedrichshain in the 19th and 20th centuries.

A city exploration on the intersections of identity, religion, class and gender.

Friedrichshain was an attractive residential area for various population groups due to its location – until 1920 just outside of Berlin’s official border. Many of the people living here belonged to the working class and shaped the neighbourhood with their political struggles, social networks and cultural expressions.
The history of the Jewish population in particular reflects the changing developments of the neighbourhood – from migration and integration to persecution and resistance. Our tour invites you to trace these aspects.
